For the Philadelphia area, there is no doubt in our minds that the clear overwhelming choice for us was Inspire Energy. We've worked with some of the other Elect Co's and Inspire is without a doubt, head and shoulders above them all in every category — Janice from Philadelphia PA
Renewing because of Low price , good customer service.
Entering my 2nd.year. Slight increase this year but what isn't ? Last year my supply rate was lower than national grid on both of there rate adj. I have a 12 month contract again and there is no charge to cancel should I decide to. However I have no intention to . They have a good customer service as well. I do not understand how anyone could have an issue with this company. At least in Massachusetts it's cut and dry. You pay a set kwh rate for supply cost and lock into that for 12 months. And it lower than National Grid. Thank you Inspire Clean Energy ! — Mike D. from Rutland MA

I was skeptical at first and Atlantic Electric told me my first bill will be high and then I will see Inspire 12cent from the next month. I own an electric car and my last electric bill was 5 something dollars. Hope it stays this way and to be honest I am expecting 0 dollar bill this month

Initial signup and Renewing my current agreement was incredibly easy
Initially signing up was only a few clicks. Inspire took care of the rest. No verbal 3rd party authorization questions needed. After my 6 month agreement was up I called to see if I could renew my agreement for a cheaper rate. The customer service rep was very knowledgeable about the questions I had. She was able to give me another 6 month agreement for less than the renewal offer sent to me and the current rate online. My hold time was barely for a pause, the total phone call was less than 3 minutes. So far I am extremely satisfied with Inspire Energy!

Upfront and honest customer care.
I spoke with a rep on the phone about my current plan and they searched competitor rates for me. A real person that didn't read from a script was very refreshing. In Mass, you can buy power from the utility company and they are cheaper than clean energy. It can confuse people that you have to pay for energy, and also the infrastructure it takes to deliver it separately. As long as you understand that, you can better gauge the energy marketplace. I'm happy to pay a bit more for clean energy.

Extremely predatory and aggresive after canceling
While I had them the price was fine. easy to stay with them, was average or below the area rates for 2 years. When I switched to someone else, the harassment began. I get letters in the mail that look like collection notices until you open them and it is just a sales pitch. I get called 3-4 times a day asking me to sign back up with them.

Satisfied since 2016
I've been an Inspire customer since 2016. I live in NJ. The sales rep wasn't pushy or deceptive. Everything was fine until I received my October 2023 bill, which was twice my previous bill ($440). I felt there had to be some kind of mistake, perhaps because a new meter had been installed.
I called Atlantic City Electric, who sends the bills, and they said the increase came from Inspire and that Inspire was charging me 25 cents per kwh, twice what Atlantic City charges. I called Inspire and got a very pleasant Brazilian rep who said something about a change to my plan and that they were going to start notifying NJ customers by email when their plans changed. I felt this was a scam, or maybe he was covering up an internal mistake. Anyway, he gave me a 12-month fixed rate of $94 a month and a contract, and made sure I knew I could cancel at any time with no penalty, and refunded me my money from last month plus some incentives. So I'm getting back over $250.
I plan to cancel them at the end of the 12 months as this all feels odd, but I'll take advantage of the 12-month discount. Even if it was a mistake, just say "we made a mistake." Since my Nov bill went back to normal before I called, I think it was just a mistake but I'll be watching closely especially after reading about others' experiences.

Disappointed
A customer for 3 years. My latest 12 month contract expired and Inspire sent me an auto renewal contract with a 20% increase. I went to my utility's "shopping page" and I see them advertising a rate that is equivalent to my current rate. The rep explained that this was for new customers only. So, I cancelled and went with a competitor that gave me a rate equivalent to my current one. So....Inspire doesn't want to keep only customers, only attain new ones. It seems like a bad business model to me......

Billing scam
I signed up with inspire in late 2017. My rate was comparable to National Grid, slightly higher. One the course of the following 12 months, rates increased by 50% in several steps. Along the way I complained, rates were adjusted down only to go up again later. Net 50% increase over a period of 12 months. I threatened to cancel, they offered me a fixed rate slightly lower as current but knowing that rates usually go down over the summer months that rate would be very high. So I cancelled. They told me it will take one or two billing cycles to execute my shift back to National Grid. I now received the bill for the first of those two "billing cycle". Their rate increase again by about 15%! So they really take advantage of me. I can only warn to get in business with this company. We all want to do the right thing for the environment but that does not mean that we have to accept scams!

Very bad customer service. Just got off the phone with an extremely rude supervisor by the name of Anya who came off as antagonistic from the get-go, after I thought I'd successfully resolved the issue with another customer service representative. The dispute had to do with a huge jump in my electric bill, and I wish I had poked around the reviews before I'd signed up with them. It seems to be a very common complaint. I've terminated services, and hope that is the end of it. I commend the cause, i.e. clean energy, but not the delivery. I'll be looking around for other clean energy providers.

Potential door to door sales scam
2 young men in black sweater jackets with pink Inspire insignia came to my door on a Saturday. Wanted to see my electric bill or have me give information from it. Started conversation flashing a card stating I should have seen pie charts of something on my bill and stated in a VERY condescending manner that I didn't respond to questionnaire on the bill like I was supposed to. Said they would wait while I got bill, told them I didn't want to do it right then. the pushy one tried more and the other one cut hum off stating thank you goodbye. He realized I was wary of a scam.

Dishonest sales tactics, dishonest rate hikes
I spoke with reps at a reputable grocery store. Went against my usual MO and trusted what they said was true. I agreed to a "usage monitor" to see how their monthly would compare to my current. Wrong. My fault for trusting, but I signed up for a service transfer. 100% misrepresentation.
When I realized this, I called Inspire and was reminded numerous times that I signed the contract. "Did you sign anything?" "Did you sign the iPad?" "You signed your name"... obviously a very common complaint. I finally told the exceedingly bright and cheery woman on the phone that I heard her the first 5 times and she could stop reminding me that I believed her rep's lies.
So, at this point, I was still hoping that shady recruitment notwithstanding, that the entry would be from green sources and wouldn't cost me any more than I was already paying. I had my current rate in hand and she said "you will be charged X from us" which matched my current rate exactly. So I figured what the heck, I really like the idea of renewable energy so I'll give it a shot.
Well, I was correctly charged that rate month one. The next bill came and my rate had been raised 26%. Im willing to pay a little more for renewal energy. But 26% hike is obviously not to cover costs. It's to line pockets.
This is the kind of company who is playing on conservationally conscious people who are trusting that a renewable energy company will be on our side as well as the planet's. It's not. Inspire is out to rip you off under the guise of renewable energy. Shame on them and shame on me for trusting. I went against my usual M.O. that day and learned my lesson.

I signed up at a local grocery store with promises of my bill being the same. The bill was the same for the first 6 months and then I saw a DRAMATIC increase. My bill went from $100 monthly to $300 because my "intro offer" had expired. I called Jan 6th to cancel my services with Inspire, and was still billed for the next four months (April 2020) with inspire. I called and got confirmation numbers each time but was told that "they weren't communicating well" with our power company. Interesting. They ended up refunding me the difference that I would've paid using my regular supplier but just awful on their end.

So I was being double billed. But lucky for me my girlfriend canceled the service. I usually don't talk to aggressive salesmen now I know not to talk to any salesmen period cause they may be nice but they prey on nice people like me who listen to their routine and he acted like I was going to save a bunch of money. Had a great experience with them the first contract I had. I was told I needed to renew my contract, which I did. However, apparently "renewing" means agreeing to new terms, because my electric bill doubled. When I called to find out the deal, I was told that due to a pricing mistake on Inspire's part, I was no longer eligible for flat rate pricing. I did nothing wrong, the customer service person said, it was their fault -- great, but why single me out to be punished?! Infuriating, and I was stonewalled at every attempt for more information. I used to be a big supporter, but I can no longer support a company that will straight up lie to their customers. I was told they "can't explain any details." What that means is that they won't.

Signed 12 month contract in Dec 2020. Inspire wants to cancel the contract in May 2021 because of system errors affecting the quoted price. Clearly they misjudged the market and now want to change the rate instead of honoring the contract.

These folks are awful
They lie about the price, they don't fully explain their charges are for service provider only. You still pay utility company charges on top of that. Their rates stink. I was charged 155 for a month where my average for almost 2 years was 100. Avoid unless you have endless supplies of money. OH, when I cancelled after receiving my very first bill they said it was AFTER the recension period. Sooo lame.

Lieing scammers
They lie saying you will save money. I told rep in store how much I spend for my most used electric month and he said it would be cheaper... I tried thinking how much I paid went to distribution but the rep wouldn't let me think. A couple minutes later after I got home I realized they will actually cost me more. Rep also said price was $55 looked online she is$40 for unlimited electric...... Now I have to try to get in contact with them and they are open only Monday through Friday 9-6.. Scam

a representative from inspire energy approached me and my boyfriend at giant eagle about 8 months ago now and told us signing up with them would add no extra cost to our monthly energy bill and all it would do was tell the illuminating company that we advocate for greener energy. a few months goes by and we notice our energy bill had gone up $30 more a month. we shrugged it off as it being winter and needing to use more energy. my boyfriend did a little more digging and found that contrary to what they had told us, inspire energy was charging us an extra $30 a month. he called to cancel and the customer service person, instead of canceling the bill, attempted to sign us up for the cheaper option which was $7 less a month. do not trust them they are all about scams and lies!!

Simply because of their sales pitch
This review is simply based off their sales tactics. Their door to door sales pitch is being sneaky and sly. They say they know your neighbors well and will talk to your pets and act all charming to come off super trustworthy and after looking into the product it didnt seem terrible but the sales experience alone left a bad taste in my mouth that I canceled after the trial right away. After they left my house I felt so gross. I couldnt stay with them even if the trial went okay. It was just an experience that left you feeling dirty and tricked.

Lies all the way
This place is a joke. The prices are set and have nothing to do with usage, only to do with what they feel like charging on a given day. The salespeople admit they know nothing. If I log in with different browsers or devices, prices vary. I input an address with incredibly low usage vs an address with high usage 25 miles away and was given the same rate because it "calculated the usage". Hm, odd, that doesn't seem possible. It's especially not possible when they're not even looking into the account. You are not being given a special price at all. You are not being treated as an individual. They are giving out what they feel like. Also, the most common plans are 99, 114, 119, and 125. I am going to bet someone quoted you one of those numbers.

I don't even know yet how much money Inspire robbed me of, but it seems possible it's well over $4000. Just learned they have been increasing my rate to, now, 2.5 times the standard rate. I'm livid. I can't afford to have thousands stolen from me. I've filed a complaint with the PUC.

Misleading and Fraudulent Sales Tactics
An Inspire employee came to my mom's house on 6/6/2022. Mom is elderly and lives alone. The employee used high pressure tactics to try and get my mom to switch. She called me while the employee was there and put him on the phone with me. He falsely stated that mom was currently a customer of Inspire (she isn't) and that he was there to "make sure she wasn't switched without her consent to another supplier". The man insisted that I tell him the details from mom's bill to confirm this. I said we're not interested in switching and that I did not appreciate someone bothering mom at her home. The employee stated that he was sent because we didn't respond to a mailing. I told him to please leave. He refused and stated that if I couldn't provide him with the billing info to confirm our supplier, he or someone else from Inspire would keep coming back until we did. This was threatening and unethical behavior. I told him again he needed to leave or I would contact the police. He finally relented but then accused my mom of being racist before storming off. This was unprofessional, illegal sales tactics involving fraud. And it was trespassing as he remained even after I told him to leave the premises. I will be contacting the state utilities commission about this. And the police will be called if any Inspire employee sets foot on my mom's property again.

Highly unethical company-a huge rip-off
They offer a very low introductory monthly fee (regardless of usage) for the first couple of months and then a higher fixed monthly fee thereafter (again regardless of usage). They base this fee on an estimate of your average monthly usage after looking at your utility bill. I was aware that I was paying more than what my local utility was charging, but was willing to pay a little more for "clean" energy. The catch is that after a total of 12 months doing business with them, they switch you to an exorbitant metered KWH rate without any advance notice (NJ law apparently doesn't require them to tell you about this!). Shame on me for not staying on top of this! When I realized I was being charged an outrageous amount (3x the metered KWH rate charged by my local utility!), I got another nasty surprise: it takes a couple of billing cycles to get rid of them. This 2 month window alone cost me almost $650 over what my utility provider would've charged me! Don't fall for this bait and switch scam like I did!

Inspire energy rip-off
Basically the same thing as everyone else has already said. Got approached in BJ's about having cheap clean energy and a month later got an almost $400 bill when my usage in the past 2 years averaged between $66 to $90 a month. Called the first time and they said they would see what they could do for me about refunding the outrageous amount and never got back to me then 4 days later I get a letter in the mail stating my new rate is over $300 a month. I called back and asked what they were going to do about my almost $400 bill and they pretend that they said that they already said I cannot be refunded then realized by the call log that they did promise that they will look into it for me and just said that they are sorry but that representative was wrong and they have a no refund policy. I asked her how would she feel if she was in my position on a budget and now facing a payment 4 months worth of electricity and she didn't say anything. I asked who will pay the late fees every month since I wouldn't be able to pay all at once she said she is sorry but they can't do anything about it. They basically charged me almost $1 per KW and I'm stuck with the bill. I guess now I'll just have to leave $400 worth of bad reviews on every possible platform on the internet. I just started living on my own at an apartment complex in Sept 2022. I am young and nave. The inspire door to door people were personable and tricked me into believing them. They seem legit with all the forms and whatever. In January of 2023 when it started, my utility bill jumped up $100. I cancelled it immediately and still have to pay since it's a "slow cancellation process". I complained again since now its $110 and waiting to hear back. They stole $210 already. I don't believe that they will cancel and I will be stuck paying $100 extra every month.
These people are evil. They take advantage of the inexperienced. It's a cruel world and Inspire makes it worse.

These people scam and LIE to people, feeding off the ignorance of those who only look at the bills balance and pay. DON'T LET THEM FOOL YOU!! THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN!!! This is a Scam
I just had a sales person come to my home and lie about PECO no longer supplying my energy and that Inspire is the company that supplies it now. When asking questions to understand why a person was visiting my home to discuss this, they could not answer. This is incredibly deceptive. These clean energy companies are much more expensive than PECO and you don't get to choose who supplies your energy, even if you do sign up for these companies to be your suppliers.

The ONLY good thing about Inspire Energy is they let me cancel easily.
A representative came to my door promising that my electricity bill would be reduced if I switched my electricity service to Inspire Energy. The door-to-door representative from Inspire Energy lied to me. My generation rate INCREASED by 50% after switching services.
I am a first-time homeowner, and at the time I didn't know how to read my electric bill. In NJ no matter who your provider is (PSE&G, JCP&L, or Atlantic City Electric) you are billed for service/delivery and generation. Both are based on your usage but both have separate rates. Inspire Energy, or any 3rd party generation service, is instead going to bill you for a generation but not service/delivery, which will stay with your provider and at this time can't be changed.
If you're reading this after a representative came to your door, call them back and ask them what your new GENERATION rate will be. If they give you the runaround just cancel your sign-up process.
If you're reading this after signing up and wondering why your bill is so high compare it to your old bill and see if your generation cost increased significantly.
You can cancel at any time, I just emailed them at help@inspirecleanenergy.com, didn't have to wait in line or actually talk to anyone and the CS representatives didn't give me much hassle. I also emailed JCP&L back and they implied they can also cancel 3rd party generation service as well.
Out of curiosity, I stayed with Inspire Energy for a few billing cycles after signing up thinking it was possible the JCP&L rates would increase over Inspire's. That never happened. JCP&L's rates did fluctuate but not very much. Insprie's was consistent, but it was consistently much more expensive than JCP&L's rates.
I'm all for going with 100% renewable clean energy, but this company practices deceptive marketing. There are other 100% renewable energy providers that are much more ethical. I would advise everyone to stay away from them.

Scam!
Inspire has come to my apartment complex multiple times. They lie and use aggressive sales tactics to make it seem like you will save money. I fell for it in January and signed up. When my bill doubled, I immediately canceled. Last weekend, they came back and tried the same thing again.
The reps talked insanely fast and gave vague answers to simple questions. I asked multiple times if they were trying to get me to switch suppliers to which they said no. When I asked what company they were from they said "Energy Choice", which is not a company, it's the program that allows you to shop different suppliers. They would not leave when I said I was not interested in their service. They insisted I was already a customer of theirs, and that they were simply there to "update" my plan. I showed them my paperwork from my current supplier, but they tried to say the new rates they were "updating" would mean cheaper bills since I used a certain amount of energy each month. This ended up being a lie, too.
None of it was making sense to me and in my confusion, I almost gave in to the pressure again. The last step of sign up is a 3rd party verification over the phone. The reps made me put the phone on speaker. The verifier asked if the salespeople had left the premises. They hadn't - they were right next to me coercing me to say "yes". Then the verifier asked if I consented to switching suppliers, at which point I insisted the reps leave and told the verifier I did not consent. I only wish I had done the same thing in January.

When I initially signed up, I was promised that my rate would be only slightly higher than my current provider and that in paying "slightly" more, that I would be supporting clean energy. Inspire energy robbed my identity and signed me up on a plan
I left my phone at a shell gas station were a sales rep for inspire was working . I had no password on my phone which i have changed after this experience and now have password on my phone. They took my info signed me up on a ridiculous plan at 27 cents a kil which my normal plan with my provider is 10 cents a kil, i did not know any of this was happening until i received my bill. I looked into it further through inspire and found out i was signed up from rep at shell gas station on the same day i left my phone at fuel pump. rep illegally signed me up on a ridiculously expensive plan by stealing my identity . I had to contact my electric provider cancel out inspire and go back to provider I had. The difference in 2 months of billing from them amounted to 1046.11. For weeks they have said they apologize and will send a check for difference, check never came and then my 2nd time talking to them they told me they sent check for 342$ no where near they amount that they owe me. I have contacted the attorney general and a Lawyer to file criminal charges and civil charges. If anybody has experienced the same situation I would advise you do the same.

Horrible company. A representative of Inspire knocked on my door and lied to my face, saying that they represented my cities electric company. Once I found out what happened and saw that they quickly adjusted the monthly fee they were charging me, I called and canceled my agreement. I thought all was fine until I received a renewal notice in the mail. Turns out, they didn't cancel my account when I asked. They continued charging me for over a year. Higher Energy Costs After Signing With Inspire
I was told my electric bill would be less. All it did was increase by the amount of the Inspire monthly fee which started at $54.99 and jumped to $294.99! When I called Inspire about the new charge, they lowered it to $159.99 for 12 months. I cancelled on January 18, prior to the "auto-renewal" of January 24. I was still billed for two months after the cancellation due to "THEIR billing cycle"! How convenient for them!!! March, I was charged $189.99. So that is $159.99 and $189.99 that I will never get back. How is this legal?

Buyer beware! I spoke with PEPCO and learned that Inspire's energy rates are double PEPCO's rates. I was paying almost 16 cents per kilowatt hour versus under 8 cents for PEPCO's energy rates. PEPCO did say that there are third party providers who charge lower than PEPCO, so I will explore further. I was told energy rates were the same by the Inspire sales team and of course would prefer renewable energy where it's available. I recommend against going to Inspire.

Scam!! Dont do it!
The sales person who does not even introduce himself as a sales rep, misleads you to make you believe this is part of the state to become green and they are just making sure you get clean energy. LIE! You are actually signing up to a service with a lot of misled and fake information most likely from the rep who are usually very pushy and aggressive to get you to sign up. Its also very intrusive the fact that they come to your house and try to scam you as Ive had at least 7 of them come already and they wont leave! Which I feel its harassment. Unless you say a thousand times, they wont leave. You literally have to shut the door in their faces at point for them to leave you alone and leave your home. The reps dont even leave their masks on and grab your phone without even asking for permission and get really close to you. The rep also Kept asking me very personal questions such as how much I make weekly with my job and kept looking at my phone. Also he wouldnt let me read the terms of the contract that he said was just to make sure I was at least 18. Another lie!! That contract was an agreement to get the service. I could on for hours on how many Kira he said. All of the approach and service is just beyond wrong, disrespectful and a complete lie/scam. If they want to sell a service, at least come clean about and tell the truth about what your trying to sell and let the people decide on whether they want to get it or not, dont just straight up lie about it.

If I switched to the plan I was looking at, my cost per kWh would have increased from about 6 cents to 10 cents. Obviously, I am not doing that. Other information on the web indicates that the cost should be the same or lower. So I am definitely NOT impressed by Inspire Energy.

They mention a flat rate, but it only applies to the "supply" cost on your electric bill, you still have to pay the delivery/distribution charges and taxes to your normal energy provider (as indicated by their contract/terms and conditions). At least in my case, this would have resulted in my total electric bill being much more expensive than it is currently. If you happen to get coerced while you are out there, you have 3 days to rescind/cancel (at least in Maryland, may vary by state), so it should be easy enough to undo any damage.

The distribution which comes through your carrier in my case BG&E whether its budget billing or not its always through them also the gas is always for them which I also did not understand. This company is basically scamming you and charging you as much as $.12 a kilowatt as opposed to eight cents on my PG&E. Beware at all costs. There pricing is a scam to get you signed up. And since there is this strange relationship with BGE and electric providers, you don't get the real information in your billings about how the supplier is charging. I had to cancel my service because they stated they could not honor the price they promised at the time of new service. They agreed not to charge a cancellation fee, but they still did. And since it's thru BGE billings... it's would be a pain in the neck to resolve. I'm just glad to free from such a shady company.
